AquaNova offers a unique approach to personalized feedback in writing instruction, allowing students to receive tailored comments on their work, which can significantly enhance their learning experience. For example, if a student writes, "I think the story was interesting but confusing," AquaNova might respond with, "Great observation! To elevate your analysis, consider explaining what made the story confusing and how it could be improved." This feedback helps students move from a basic understanding to a more nuanced critique. Additionally, AquaNova can accurately predict DSE grades for both Part A and Part B, providing detailed scores based on content organization and language use. This ensures students know exactly where they stand and what they need to improve. The system operates with high efficiency, allowing for marking in just one minute per paper, making it a cost-effective solution for both students and educators. This combination of personalized feedback and efficient grading empowers students to progress from different levels, ultimately helping them achieve higher writing competencies.
2. Will AquaNova's AI Text Revision Replace Teachers?
AquaNova is positioned as a "teaching assistant tool" designed to enhance language education, and it is not intended to replace the professional role of teachers. We firmly believe that teachers are essential for inspiring student thinking and fostering their holistic development; no matter how advanced artificial intelligence becomes, it cannot sever the bonds between people. AquaNova tailors content based on teachers' requirements, ensuring that it aligns with educational goals while supporting their instructional methods. This tool does not aim to challenge the expertise of educators but rather seeks to create a resource that utilizes AI to support teaching, such as automating essay grading and providing personalized feedback. This alleviates the burden on teachers and enhances the effectiveness of both teaching and learning.
3. Is the AI technology of GradePen mature? Will there be errors in scoring? Are the grading criteria fair?
GradePen is still in the development and testing stage. Although it can convert handwritten text into computer fonts, it sometimes has flaws, and the actual grading results may also have errors. Our team is actively working to resolve technical difficulties, hoping to build an artificial intelligence grading system that meets the needs of the academic community.
GradePen's marking criteria are designed based on the HKDSE, and a marking model for junior high and primary school writing tasks is currently being developed. Admittedly, essay marking is highly subjective and even professionally trained public examination examiners may still have differences in their marking. However, GradePen hopes to continuously improve the accuracy of scoring and increase teachers' confidence through two technologies: machine learning and prompt engineering.
If there is more data (students' marked essays), the accuracy of GradePen will be further improved. Therefore, GradePen sincerely invites schools to participate in the "Partner School Pilot Program" to pilot GradePen in their classes/grades, review the results, and allow the academic community to jointly build and share an accurate essay marking system.
4. Can GradePen be used in school to grade essays in batches?
We will soon launch a "one-click grading" function for GradePen, where teachers can upload the chapters of the entire grade/class and download the comments and scores with one click. The system will generate an independent grading report to save time. In the future, we will also actively explore how to integrate into the school's existing classroom management systems, such as Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams, etc., to be more conducive to school teaching.
5. Is there any ethical controversy about AI marking?
There is still controversy regarding the ethical issues of AI, and our team does not dare to jump to conclusions. But we hopes to provide an alternative way for students to learn English, providing them with a huge database to promote self-study. The emergence of GradePen does not mean that AI can arbitrarily judge the value of students. It just means that students can have an additional channel for learning and can improve in vocabulary, sentence structure, and question analysis. As long as it is used properly, artificial intelligence will become a good partner for learning.
6. Will GradePen cause students to plagiarize?
Plagiarism is indeed a problem that teachers must worry about, because plagiarism means that students are unable to internalize the knowledge they have learned and can only copy words from paper. Our team does not encourage students to use the materials generated by GradePen or other chatbots without thinking, but should repeatedly adjust, improve and read them carefully, and further extend the ideas based on what GradePen provides, so as to promote student growth. On the other hand, teachers should also explain to students the correct attitude and methods for using artificial intelligence learning aids, so that students understand that plagiarism will make learning meaningless and know how to be responsible for their own learning.
7. What is the “Partner School Pilot Program”?
In order to achieve the vision of reducing the burden on teachers and enhancing teaching effectiveness, we urgently need the support and participation of schools. We invite the academic community to co-build, co-create and share, and construct a truly accurate Chinese correction system to reduce the pressure on teachers and improve the efficiency of students. "Witch Pen" sincerely invites your school to participate in the trial program and become our valued partner school. Details are as follows:
1. [Free Trial] GradePen provides a usage quota of 500 for each participating school, allowing teachers to try out the different features of the GradePen app. 2. [Redeem usage limit with essay samples] In order to improve the quality of the model, we hopes that schools can provide students' essay samples and teachers' comments to help us train a model specifically for AI grading DSE essays, making the service more mature and allowing the system to produce more insightful comments and more accurate scores. Our company will strictly abide by the confidentiality agreement, and the data obtained will only be used for model training to improve the quality of artificial intelligence grading and benefit the academic community. To thank your school for its generous support, for every essay sample provided by the school, AquaNova will give you 10 usage limits, and so on. 3. [Purchase quota directly] If your school wishes to use GradePen directly, you can also purchase the corresponding amount of quota directly through a check deposit, with no limit on the quantity.
